Again a water pump is ready!

Early May our project for the construction of a well and water pump in Baraka, Matsangoni (Kilifi county) was ready. We have done that project in collaboration with Foundation Flo Flo (www.hollandwatergoesafrica.com). Gilbert Odera of Foundation Flo Flo was in charge of the project, under the supervision of Philip Kahindi, our supervisor in Kenya.

Difficult, but we managed

The job was very hard and unpredictable, because of the quality of the soil. The soil contains a lot of salt and is very sandy. A dug hole collapses easily, making the sand block the well, the pump and eventually the water. Still, Gilbert and his team have found a creative and inventive way to successfully achieve the project. They started digging a water well with their drill; that is designed in Delft (The Netherlands). When they were about 25 meters deep, they found out that the sand blocked the well. Therefore, they had to dig deeper, until they finally found the ‘deep water’ at about 32 meters deep. You have to dig that deep here to reach the water level that is needed for a constant water flow. Gilbert and his team had to make a cement shaft to that depth in order to ensure that the hole does not collapse by the sandy soil.

In the pictures below you can see how this project was done.

Money from all sides

I am very proud that this new project was done successfully. It is made financial possible by a grant from Wilde Ganzen, fundraising via Office for international relations (BIS), sale of products from the webshop of Foundation Pamoja Kenya and individual donations to Foundation Pamoja Kenya.

We go on with Flo Flo

Without the supervision of Philip Kahindi and the commitment of the Ward of Kilifi county, Mr. Hassan Mweusi, this project never would have been a success. Philip Kahindi was at the project every day, to ensure that work was done well and according to the plan. And to make sure that nothing was missing for the team of Gilbert Odera to do their job properly. The collaboration was a success for both parties. Therefore, we have decided to work together with Foundation Flo Flo for our next water well/pump projects too.

Next project starts in August

The 3rd Wash Shower and Go on the site of this water well/pump is also a part of this project plan. We’re going to finance that part of the project by fundraising through BIS. The construction of the Wash Shower and Go starts in August 2016.

Thank you very much for your interest, faith and trust in Foundation Pamoja Kenya.

Looking for more information?

Maybe you would like to get more information personally. Don’t hesitate to call me to attend a presentation one time to get more insight into Foundation Pamoja Kenya and its projects. You can also donate in different ways. Look for it on www.pamoja-kenya.com.

Also nice to do: a Kenyan party

This goes as follows. I do a presentation of up to 10 minutes, depending on the interaction. In addition, you can shop for charity. From the revenue of a Kenya-party 35% goes directly to the projects of Foundation Pamoja Kenya in Kenya. So you always know that your money comes at the right place.
