On Monday 18 November 2013 the first benefit evening of Pamoja Kenia took place. It was a great success! An evening full of music, tasty snacks and wonderful prices. At the end of the evening we had raised more than € 7.700. Once again, we want to thank our sponsors, co-organisers and all people present very much.

Christian Molter van online platform DenHaagDirect.nl was ook op de benefietavond. Hij schreef er de volgende blog over:

“Yesterday I attended the benefit evening for the well project in Kenya. Many volunteers and sponsors had done their best to make this evening a success. And it was a success! The goal was to raise € 5,000 for the construction of a new well in the Kilifi/Matsangoni area in Kenya. Philip Kahindi, chairman of the Kenyan board of Pamoja Kenia, was also present in The Hague. An inspiring man. For seven years he set aside a part of his income and by doing was able to realise the first well on his own. A great necessity for an area where 6,000 families have no adequate water supply. Women must walk 20 to 40 kilometres every day to get drinking water. On the way back to their huts, they carry 20 liters of water on their heads. Money for a new water well also means employment during construction. The money that is collected during the benefit evening, will be spent directly on the project. Philip Kahindi invites everyone to come and see with their own eyes what’s going to be realised with the money. Mrs Dorcas Jeruto, County Ambassador for the Netherlands and the EU for Elgeyo/Marakwet-county, was a special guest on this evening. As a Kenyan she supports the project of Pamoja Kenia wholeheartedly. I have talked with Mrs Jeruto and Philip Kahindi and am impressed by the love and pride that they have for their homeland and the determination with which they are working for a better future for their country.

Marion van de Voort, founder and spokeswoman of Pamoja Kenia, had organised this evening to the last detail. The evening started right on time, but ended half an hour later than arranged because of the atmosphere. This was also due to the Pagaja band and the friendly catering provided by volunteers. The dozens of guests could spend time networking and enjoy snacks and drinks. There were few short speeches and of course a lot of music. Philip Kahindi didn’t hesitate to sing along with a Kenyan song. There was an auction led by Weinand Wiegeraad. There were a lot of sponsored items for which a bid could be made. A stay at a 5-star resort in Kenya, tickets for an ADO-Ajax football match, beautiful lithographs and paintings and countless services and objects passed into other hands. In the end a performance by Pagaja was also auctioned! Finally, there was a lottery at which many great prizes were raffled off. At the end of the evening the interim position was € 7.795. A great success! The Hague entrepreneurs turn out to have their hearts in the right place.
